Event next Sunday
Also - looking for someone to run this group!
Hello,
I’m choosing to believe that today is the first day of summer, and everything else so far doesn’t count. Here’s what’s up with this group:
1/ Our next London event is on the 19th July at 1.30pm at the LGBTQ+ Community Centre in Blackfriars. It’s our first ever event about pregnancy. A lot of the events of this group since 2022 have been about meeting coparents, and the step after that has been left a little to the way-side. Luckily, the parent of an eight month-old has come forward to talk about the experience of pregnancy. The workshop is way for all attendees to get thinking about what being pregnant entails. The event is for everyone, regardless of your gender or whether you intend to carry - it’s important for all parents to understand the kind of changes pregnancy entails. Tickets are free, and here.
2/ Does anyone want to take over running this group? Along with my wife, I set up this group a few years ago. I’m keen to either not be in charge of it or to formalise running it so I do less running of it from next year onwards. Would anyone like to take over? It mainly involves turning up to events and creating meet ups and supporting people who want to run meet ups. There are other bits I can also hand over if you don’t want to do everything - things like doing a one-off event, promoting the group, running the linktree, this newsletter, the instagram page, or the email address. Email queerplatoniccoparenting@gmail.com if any of this seems up your street and we can chat and I can explain more or answer questions. I’ve found running this group pretty cathartic and also very useful in my own queer platonic coparenting path, so I recommend it if you’re looking to be a parent but aren’t one yet, but it could also suit other people too. There are lots of things that could happen from this point - you could continue as I’ve been running it as a small volunteer community group, or you could go big and make paid events and up the marketing. I also support the Fertility Justice Campaign led by LGBTMummies to advocate for LGBTQIA parenting rights, so you could up the advocacy if that’s of interest. Through that I’ve met MPs on two occasions and been to parliament. There are lots of directions this group could go in for anyone interested!
3/ The Queer Platonic Coparenting Brighton group meets monthly. Info here but they are most active on a private whatsapp group - email queerplatoniccoparenting@gmail.com with your number (saying what it’s for!) and I’ll forward it on.
Very best,
Leo
